Welcome

Brothers of the Commonwealth,
As we have entered the second decade of the new millennium, as your Virginia State Director, I am gracious and humbled on this 9th day of January to say Happy Founder’s Day. 96 years ago, our beloved and most Honorable Founders conceptualized then about what today I like to say is the greatest fraternity on GOD’s green earth, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
This past year was one of the most challenging years, not only for our membership but for all Americans across the country. We can all be proud to say that we have endured one of the most difficult economic times our generation has ever seen. My philosophy of life is not based on gloom and doom, but more on optimism and faith.
With that being said, I am extremely excited about the possibilities that 2010 has already and will bring to our brotherhood, our respective communities, and our country. We have so much to be thankful for and have a great deal of work to do this year.
“Culture for Service and Service for Humanity” is not just a cute slogan, it’s a motto that we must embrace; NOW more than ever. Under the current circumstances of our respective communities, gang violence, foreclosures at record numbers, education system, unemployment rate, father-less homes, obesity, and the talk of the town – Healthcare, we either know someone or are actually being affected by the aforementioned issues.
Sigma men, the time is NOW! If to help save our communities is the mission, it is mission critical for us to step up now! The respective chapter leaders have been doing an outstanding job of leading our chapters and our brothers but you can do more….I CAN DO MORE, and I will!
Over the next two months, you will receive correspondence about upcoming activities, new state appointments, training, and membership intake.
A bright spot of 2009 that can’t be overlooked was the chartering of the newest graduate chapter in Virginia, Omicron Zeta Sigma, located in the Woodbridge area. Welcome and I look forward to working with you and witnessing your work in uplifting and empowering the Prince William County community.
Brothers as always, I am available and please don’t hesitate to call or email me. Please pass along to your chapter members.
Sincerely,
Bro. Devon M. Henry
