Virginia Volunteers
March 10, 2010
Brothers of the Commonwealth,
In a better effort to serve the brothers across the Commonwealth, I am looking to engage more brothers and get them involved on the state level.
I am soliciting brothers to volunteer and serve on the state team in the following positions.
· Editor of “The Commonwealth Cause” – this brother will be responsible for collecting information across the state and formatting the data into an electronic news letter to be distributed monthly across the state.
· Bigger and Better Business State Liaison – this brother will be responsible for direct communication with the Eastern Regional Director of B&BB and conveying this information to all the chapters. In addition the brother should be able to field questions from chapters and provide programming ideas for his respective national program.
· Social Action State Liaison – this brother will be responsible for direct communication with the Eastern Regional Director of Social Action and conveying pertinent information to all the chapters. In addition the brother should be able to field questions from chapters and provide programming ideas for his respective national program.
· Education State Liaison – this brother will be responsible for direct communication with the Eastern Regional Director of Education and conveying pertinent information to all the chapters. In addition the brother should be able to field questions from chapters and provide programming ideas for his respective national program.
· Virginia License Plate Chair – this brother will be charged with continuing the valued efforts of Bro. Moultrie Glover, Bro. Kenneth Lewis, Bro. Elmer Seay and several other brothers who have attempted to garner the required signatures and appropriate money for Virginia to have its’ first license plate. The chair will have a committee comprised of collegiate and alumni brothers.
· Fundraising Committee Chair – this brother will be charged to create state wide fundraising opportunities/events to assist the state in providing scholarships for our collegiate brothers in addition to supporting brothers needing assistance to register for regional and national conferences.
Each position will have a collegiate brother working alongside the alumni in a co-owner capacity. The two should work together to be informative for both the alumni and collegiate chapters.
In the upcoming weeks, I will roll out a Sigma Mentor/Protégé program. The program will ultimately pair up collegiate brothers with alumni brothers that are working in their field of interest or study. We have already identified a number of collegiate brothers willing to participate and will soon be looking to match them up with alumni members that are committed to the Cause
We must continue to foster the relationships with our collegiate membership and be sure that they are graduating and understanding the realities of the real world.
Please distribute at your chapter meetings and email list serves. For brothers that are interested, please contact me directly via email, expressing your interest and skill sets that speak to your ability to be successful in the aforementioned positions. It is my desire to have the positions filled by March 15, 2010.
Your brother in service,
Bro. Devon M. Henry
